Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey

Whatever the grumbles about the marina - no answer on VHF, wifi that doesn't work, electricity that needs a science degree . . . never mind . . . and staff in RIBs that create a heavy wash as they pass within a couple of metres, and a weird shower block on a barge where having a shower is like in a stand up coffin . . .
Today, the sun's been out! We toured a very small bit of Dublin yesterday, and went to Dalkey, pronounced Door Key, where James Joyce had lived in a Martello Tower, and Bono as well as Van Morrison have some claim to fame.
A lovely place, significant because Alison had one or two holidays there with her grandparents.

So, photos:

Bulloch Castle, one of seven fortifications around
Dublin Bay

Part of the high street, where we found
lunch, fish chowder and Guinness

The sun seems to go down in the north.

Where Alison's grandparents lived

The horizon in Ireland always slopes to the left. But always
very blue.
A good scene. Sailing an Optimist is fun.

Sailing: Dun Laoghaire harbour has the national sailing
school based there. It is a brilliant place for training
as it is a large harbour with access to the bay,
and with loads of Toppers, Optimists and Wayfarers.

. . . as if lunch wasn't enough,
I was threatened with, no, treated to a
giant ice cream with sprinkles and a choccy bar.
Alison has bought me a large ice cream . . .
